Nestled in the Andes of Peru at 9000 feet lies the town of Ayacucho, once an important stopping point on the long trip from Lima to Cuzco. With the introduction of air travel and the deterioration of the road, Ayacucho has become more isolated. Some 25 years ago, it was the site of the Shining Path, the Maoist guerrilla organization, which wreaked havoc on Peru. Ayacucho was devastated by years of war with over 100,000 people killed.
Today, Ayacucho is a peaceful city but is still in a period of recovery from it's destructive past. There is a severe lack of employment options, particularly for women. Many of them are struggling to find work and it is our goal to provide employment opportunities that are sustainable for them while also raising their families.
